peace flagsHand-made flags hosting messages of peace hung from trees and fences surrounding Burnside Park on Sunday, September 21st in celebration of the United Nations’ International Day of Peace.  The Peace Flag Project is one of the many organizations hosting events across the globe each year to celebrate worldwide tolerance, peace and unity. The Peace Flag Project is based on the tradition of Tibetan Prayer Flags.

Crowds gathered at the city’s center to create their own peace flag, and join the festivities, such as story telling, face painting, and origami.  The Community Prep School Chorus, Cambridge Center Chinese Dance Troupe, Global Drumming for World Peace, and Central African Dancers were among those who performed. The eventful day came to a close with a Peace Ceremony and Walking Meditation led by faith clergy and community leaders.  Click here for more information on the Peace Flag Project.
