The 2012 Burnside Park Music Series and Beer Garden kicked off this Saturday an evening of rousing performances by Bird Dog, Boo City and the Extraordinary Rendition Band in Burnside Park. If you missed the fun, don’t worry there is a full season of music ahead! Join us each Thursday evening for a free, after-work show in the park featuring inspired performances by innovative musicians from around the world.
Meet up with friends new and old, relax in the Trinity Brewhouse and Revival Brewing beer garden and enjoy the park with lawn games and delicious food truck fare. Beer garden is open from 4:30 – 7pm with music from 5:30 – 6:30pm. Every Thursday, Burnside Park.
June 28th- M.A.K.U. Soundsystem, Afro-columbian rhythms in the punk-jazz stratosphere; from Queens, NYC.
July 5th – DJ Save 1, Record hustler spinning exquisite 45′s of soul, Funk and Latin Music from Providence RI.
July 12th– The Holmes Brothers, A joyous blend of blues, gospel, soul, R&B, and country in amazing three-part harmony; from Bronx, NYC.
July 19th– Dustin Wong, Intricately layered guitar music that is as hypnotic as it is beautiful; on Thrill Jockey; from NYC.
Oumar Konate, A rising young star from Gao, Mali, Oumar Konate is blazing the new wave of Malian music onto the contemporary world stage in his North American debut as a bandleader. Joined by guitarist Dramane Toure, bassist Mohamed Ag Mohamed, and percussionist Mahalmadane Abbanassane (his bandmates in Khaira Arby’s band,) Oumar sings about love, family and social responsibility, punctuated by his searing electric guitar solos and infectious energy. Trained at the reknowned National Institute in Bamako, Oumar leads the new generation of Malian musicians blending tradition with the internet’s global musical perspective.
August 2nd– Janka Nabay & The Bubu Gang, The undisputed king of bubu, dance floor rhythms with magical origins in Sierra Leone on Luaka Bop; from Freetown, Sierra Leone/New York.
August 9th– The Famous Winters, Bluesy indie rock with stellar arrangements from Providence RI.
August 23rd– BebeRequin, Pop with ancient folk roots and gypsy charm; from Providence.
August 30th– Special Event: Live Bait, True stories from real people told in six minutes each. This event’s theme: Divine Providence!
